It is our business imperative to ensure our Company operates and grows in sustainable manner. By working closely with our communities we are making a real contribution to society and safeguarding the environment for current and future generations.

Our main concerns during the construction of the plant were the welfare of the community surrounding the project site and minimal disturbances to their livelihoods. We developed housing for the community and currently oversee the maintenance of the roads, which will provide improved access to the village of Halgastenna.

We continue to nurture the positive relationship developed with the local community in order that the inhabitants in the project locality would identify and empathise with the project.

The company has carried out the following developmental works for the local community since it has commenced construction of the Project:


•	Rehabilitation of the existing gravel Erathna - Adavikanda road:
	•	Melted and surfaced the road with tar for a distance of 1.5 kilometres from Weerakade junction to Kekunahinna.
	•	0.75 kilometre of road was laid with ABC and Premix
•	Rehabilitation of the Kuruwita - Erathna road for a distance of 5 kilometres from Kuruwita to Sudagala with a side wall was constructed at a culvert near Marukanda.
•	Construction of a building for a local school at Erathna Maha Vidyalaya
•	Rehabilitation of the men's ward at the Erathna rural hospital
•	Rehabilitation of the Police Station at Kuruwita
•	Five hundred steps were constructed at Warnagala for the development of the footpath at the nearby popular pilgrimage at Sri Pada
•	Construction of a place of worship at Sri Pada
•	Construction of a Buddha statue with platform for worshipping at Sri Pada
•	Construction of hand rails and guard rails along the pilgrims' path for a length of 100 metres at Sri Pada
•	Construction of foot bridges for the pilgrims at Sri Pada
•	Financial donations to needy patients for heart operations.
•	Construction of a road by the project proponents for access to the forebay tank, which provides access to Halgastenna. Previous access was via a steep footpath where villagers met with difficulties, especially during emergencies
