| Hydro Power Generation |
Flowing water generates kinetic energy that can be gathered and turned into electrical energy (electricity). This energy is called hydropower (hydroelectric power). The use of hydropower can make a contribution to saving on exhaustible energy sources such as fossil fuels which in turn emit large amounts of heat and carbon dioxide that leads to global warming.
Water is the chief renewable energy source used by electric utilities to generate electric power. Hydroelectric plants are built around and operate in areas with waterways.
It is important to note that hydropower plants have the maximum operating efficiency of all known power generation systems. There are several advantages of using hydroelectric power.
